MichCanSka 2010 is the dream of Bill Bradfield. In October of 2008, Bill announced an idea that he had been mulling over for a couple of years. An international snowmobiling adventure from Michigan to Alaska. In the course of about a month the idea snowballed and attracted the interest of just about everyone in the Michigan snowmobiling community. Local associations and snowmobile dealers alike were interested in hearing more about this snow-filled adventure. From that little idea, MichCanSka 2010 has grown into an international snowmobiling charity ride benefiting the Diabetes Research Institute, helping millions around the world in their fight against diabetes.

Riders will have the option of participating in the full trip, or segments in their respective states or provinces. For anyone who is considering the full trip, we strongly recommend a new, or near new machine, in order to keep repair stops to a minimum. Due to the lodging constraints in some northwestern areas of Canada, we must limit ourselves to 32 riders in each group, departing at 2 day intervals. Riders must also have a current passport or pass card, proof of insurance, and registration for riding in Canada. We are recommending 4 person teams, alternating drivers every 4th day. Snowmobile contacts and qualified local volunteers, from each state and province, will assist in guiding riders safely through the various regions and trails. Additionally, we have opened the lines of communication with the American Council of Snowmobile Associations, the Canadian Council of Snowmobile Organizations, individual province offices, and Snowmobile clubs. The starting date is February 15th, 2010 in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan, where we will began the trip by doing one lap around the famous Soo-500 Racetrack. This is being made possible by members of the board of directors, especially Jan Bailey who has been involved in the race since 1977.
The itinerary is as follows: Marquette, Mi., Ironwood, Mi., Wisconsin, Minnesota, Canada, Trans Canada Trail, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon territory, Dawson city, and TOK Alaska. At 4,000 miles, we plan to maintain a distance of 200 miles per day, bringing the trip to Alaska to 20 days. Daily distances traveled and total number of days traveled are subject to change.
The geographical highlights of the MichCanSka adventure are spectacular. The Trans Canada Trail, along with the Yukon Territory, and the original gold rush mining town of Dawson city, are all on the agenda. At last, the Grand Finale will take riders across the Top of the World Highway, to TOK Alaska, where the view is nothing short of breathtaking. After reaching the final destination, a presentation to local officials will take place in celebration of this great adventure, funds raised, and sights seen. The next day we ride back to Dawson City, spend the night, and journey back home the following day, via comfortable heated vehicles!
